When the neck and bridge pickups are used in combination (in the middle toggle position) with the phase reversal engaged, output that is in common to both pickups is cancelled. When the volume push-pull pots are in the up position, that pickup is split, and when the neck tone push-pull pot is in the up position, the phase of the neck pickup is reversed relative to the bridge pickup. The coil-splitting feature for each pickup is activated by corresponding volume push-pull pots while the phase reversal feature is activated by a neck tone push-pull pot.
